Morro de São Paulo

A car-free village, numbered beaches and pool-like sea

On Tinharé Island, about two hours by catamaran from Salvador, Morro de São Paulo is a village with no cars: everything happens on foot, by wheelbarrow or by boat.

Its beaches are numbered — from First Beach, by the village, to Fourth Beach, with natural pools at low tide. Up the hill, the Lighthouse and the 17th-century Fortress offer the island's best sunset; a zip line runs from the hill straight into the sea.

Good to know: the archipelago charges an environmental fee on arrival, paid directly at the pier.
